The placemaking element of the Stocksbridge Towns Fund (STF) projects has undergone significant change over the last two years.
In June 2025, the STF Board instructed a reduced focus on the Placemaking element of the Manchester Road regeneration, in order to redistribute funding to other parts of the programme. Proposed highways works have been removed from the scheme.
The focus of works now is the purchase of two Manchester Road buildings – the Factory Shop and former Bargain Booze buildings. As these purchases go through and the timeline is better understood, discussions around what will replace those buildings, and the allocation of that land will continue. Focus can then be increased on this project once more.
