
Janet represents the ward of Stocksbridge & Upper Don on Sheffield City Council where she is the Council’s Heritage Champion. She sits on the Transport, Regeneration and Climate Policy Committee and the Planning Committee, and is a member of the South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Authority, the Sheffield Conservation Advisory Group, and the South Yorkshire Joint Advisory Committees for Archives and Archaeology.
Janet has worked in the heritage sector for many years and has extensive experience of developing and delivering large-scale heritage projects including bid-writing, project management and delivery, and volunteer training. She has worked closely with strategic partners to develop new and exciting cultural programmes and experiences and to bring them to heritage venues in the Sheffield area.
She is active in the local community as a member of the Upper Don Arts Community, The Valley at War heritage project, Stocksbridge & Deepcar Royal British Legion and the Royal Naval Association.
As a trustee of Sheffield Civic Trust, Janet coordinates the annual Heritage Open Days Festival in Sheffield, which attracts many visitors from Sheffield and beyond to visit heritage venues across the city. She is a speaker, lecturer and tour guide, and published writer on local history and heritage.
