Plans approved for Leisure Centre improvements!

A planning application for further improvements to the Stocksbridge Community Leisure Centre as part of the Town’s Fund Project has been approved.

The work includes redesigning the existing front car park and driveway to accommodate better access and disabled parking and the creation of additional parking spaces.

New external steps from the bus stop on Moorland Drive to the Centre's main entrance with also be created with lighting and soft landscaping works.

The project, designed in conjunction with Castle Owen Architects, is being led by SCC Parks & Countryside in partnership with the Community Leisure Centre and funded through the Government’s Towns Fund ‘Accelerated Programme’.

The plans which have been approved are part of the £500,000 funding which will also deliver a new outdoor seating area for the new Stocksbridge Community Leisure Centre Café linking it to the park.

Work can start in the New Year on the project.

This investment comes in advance of the up to £25 million of funding that will be awarded to the town once full plans have been submitted to the Government for approval.

The Towns Fund Board is co-chaired by Mark Dransfield, managing director of Dransfield Properties and the MP for Penistone and Stocksbridge Miriam Cates and is made up of stakeholders and local business representatives as well as officers from Sheffield City Council.

Mark Dransfield said: “It is fantastic news that the plans for the improvements have been approved by Sheffield City Council in such a short space of time ready for work to start early in 2021. This work will further secure this important local asset.

“We look forward to delivering the wider bid in January for the £25 million of improvements across the town.”
