Statement from the Towns Fund Board

The Towns Fund Board is made up of a team of local people from the voluntary and business community as well as local authority and elected representatives with one shared vision – to deliver positive change for Stocksbridge through the Government’s Towns Fund Initiative.

This shared vision will deliver a comprehensive package of projects investing in the local area which will create jobs and new opportunities for our town.

Some of the key themes to come out of the initial public consultation during 2020 were the regeneration of the Manchester Road area, improving sports and recreation facilities as well as connectivity – both within the town and links with the wider city region.

Our bid was submitted in January this year and the approval of £24.1m of funding was confirmed by the Government in the March budget. The next stage in this process is to prepare the business case ready for submission.

Everyone has given freely of their time and expertise and the make-up of the board is fully compliant with the Government’s set guidelines around groups and organisations within the community which should be represented.

We are fortunate to have the ongoing officer support and project management expertise from Sheffield City Council as we continue to the next stage in the bid process.

Ongoing local engagement is a hugely important part of this process. We look forward to further consulting about the plans and will be updating the community about the next stage of local consultation and engagement in the coming weeks. Please keep an eye on the website, local press and social media for further information.
